Our Mission:
Empowering an Inclusive Creative Community

After talking with my fellow performers and theater board members, I noticed a pretty big problem: a lack of feedback flowing from performers to companies and theaters (especially in volunteer or underpaid environments).

On the Performer Side

On the Company Owner Side

Performers didn’t usually feel comfortable giving feedback to owners about their experience, for fear of being blacklisted.

Owners and leadership members need this feedback!

Most I talked to had little information on how performers felt about their experiences (auditions, rehearsals, performances, etc) until it was too late (casting calls slowly receiving fewer participants).

About the Founder

Headshot from my less fulfilling tech job

Hey there!

I’m Peter DeMarzio, CEO & Founder of Back of House

I’ve been working in the tech / startup industry for over a decade, primarily focused on HR, People, and Recruiting. (If you can’t get enough LinkedIn, you can check my profile.)

The inception of Back of House stemmed from my desire to usher the transparency and accountability found in anonymous workplace review platforms into the creative industry, catering to both professionals and passionate amateurs alike.

This site was built with input from performers, crew, and theater owners from all different backgrounds.

My vision extends to spotlighting theaters and companies that foster inclusive and enjoyable environments for performers, crew members, and creative teams, whether they occupy paid or volunteer roles.

Beyond the realm of entrepreneurship, I’ve rekindled my passion for the performing arts, returning to local theater productions after a hiatus following my theater studies in college.

I’m also deeply involved with a local theater as a member of the Board and Creative Team. I am passionate about the performing arts and want to see them thrive!
