Full disclosure: I’ve only auditioned here and haven’t been cast so this is mostly a review of the audition process.
A friend recommended them to me. The people I’ve met here have seemed really nice and would be happy to work with them.
The issue is the audition process. Audition is 3 hours (sometimes runs long) and then the callback is also 3 hours and runs long. And you have to stay the whole time, even if they just want to see you sing/read for a minute.
Would love if they tightened up their process a bit. 6+ hours is a long time to spend with a community theater just to audition.
EDIT: It would also be great if the directors/casting table would look up at the performers. They seem to look down and talk to each other most of the time while actors are performing. Again they seemed like nice people but it’s tough to perform when you know someone’s not watching.

October 4, 2023 at 1:38 pmOver the years I have done many shows with DMTC and I have always greatly enjoyed my time with them. We you are part of a DMTC show you feel like you are part of a family .
Your time is never wasted when you come to a rehearsal. I have made many friends doing shows there. It is an all volunteer company so everyone helps build and paint the sets and this time helps you get to know your fellow cast members.
Overall I will recommend this company to anyone wanting to do theater.

September 28, 2023 at 10:53 amThis theater, is definition of a theatre family. It is really easy to just feel welcome from the moment you step through the door.
As I’ve done shows here on and off over the years, there are a few things that could definitely be improved. I recommend the theater to anyone who sees theater as purely a hobby or just needs a little more of a relaxed environment to play. My favorite word to use is “Sandbox”, it’s a place for you to just go and play. I say that mainly because you are working with the two producers as your directors, most of the time.
Over the years, you get to know their directing styles and it seems if you are a more seasoned actor, you will receive less direction. Which may be some other performers style, but to me, makes me question if I’m even doing a good job.
The audition process can be long and confusing sometimes. I’ve been at callbacks where I didn’t read for parts I wanted or didn’t even get to read at all because they were short on time. There also seems to be large numbers of people called back for each part. I will say the turn around on cast lists are pretty quick though, just confusing find if your a new actor to the theatre (it’s on their website under performer info).
Rehearsal process is okay. Most of the time your not getting your schedule for the week until half way through the weekend before so it can be hard to plan around. But, it is pretty cohesive to making sure actors aren’t called when not needed.
Leadership can be a rough things for most actors to talk about. I love the leadership here as friends, but when trying to bring issues up, it can be very hard. I’ve had moments where I definitely just left things alone because of knowing it will most likely be swept under the rug somehow or turned around to be something for the actor to handle and get over. They are fairly understanding of your life outside of the theater though, within reason.
As someone who has been a part of this theater for some time can say that things overall have been improving here, just slowly. Leadership has made improvements to the culture that is used at the space, and the talent has seemed to be filtered to those who are truly supportive of each individual and the show itself.

September 26, 2023 at 2:51 pmI have performed here on more than one occasion and the thing that stands out to me is that from the minute you walk in the doors you feel like family. Set building days allow for bonding with cast mates you may not normally chat with and the overall energy from cast and crew is incredibly supportive. I have met some lovely people through this company and always have a great time in any production I am involved in.

September 26, 2023 at 12:26 amI’ve done a number of plays here. The people who run it have definite favorites and will drop you from consideration for very small things. Like once a member of a cast I was in mentioned a particular sports team had won that night. She didn’t know that one of the owners was taping the game and she was never in another show there again. They give parts to their friends and therefore their productions are all over the map in terms of talent.

September 26, 2023 at 6:37 pmI’m sorry, but, I know the director you are talking about, and this is absolutely NOT a reason that they would decline to cast someone. Also, new people get cast over long-time company members all the time as well…so this has definitely not been my experience at DMTC.
