This company is a perfect blend of professionalism and learning opportunity. From the moment you walk into the audition room, you feel that your time and talent are respected. Notes are given in a thoughtful and constructive way, and feedback and conversation are welcomed if a performer has an idea or a question.

The attention to detail and preparedness are unmatched by many local theatres. Throughout the rehearsal process, everything that happens onstage is given consideration and weight to put forth the best finished product possible.

They cast based off of pure and raw talent.

They don’t bull sh*t you. If you nail it you nail it and they will direct you and push you to the best of your abilities once cast all the way through. I will always appreciate and respect that element and the artistic director for it.

I feel like I wasn’t fully understood behavior wise and at times I felt I was on egg shells if I was professional enough for them or not when I was just being me. But all in all, this is one of the very few companies I’ve been a part of that hasn’t pre-cast yet that I’ve seen, that doesn’t discriminate, and if you really do give a solid audition they will cast you no matter what you look, sound, feel like etc

If you want honesty and to push your abilities, go here and you’ll learn a lot. It’s professional all the way so leave the emotional stuff at the door.

    My two cents.

There is a culture here of supporting other theaters and creating a completely inclusive (meaning for ALL walk of life) environment. Which is probably the biggest reason I will continue to do shows here.

The leadership style is poignant to that of people who have seen all the ways theaters can faulter. The artistic director really emphasized how there was a zero tolerance for the some of the faults in the Sacramento theater community in her space.

Auditions process was quick and easy, even as I had to prepared two songs for my first audition here. Your callback happens at the same time of the audition and she doesn’t have to see you read or sing for everything you want because she knows she can get a sense for certain characters based off of what she has you do at auditions.

Rehearsal were fairly organized. I’d say the main fault in my experience is having done more ensemble based shows where even if you aren’t on stage for a scene or two you will still be needed at some point in the night so you have to be there for that. More has to do with the show’s structure than a true scheduling mistake.

What I can’t deny about the rehearsal process is the robust amount of time to just clean the show up before tech. A show in its bare form should be completely ready before technical aspects are included, as this seems to be one of the few places I have actually felt that way going into tech. All of the things you could find out about character have already happened so that choices are consistent through tech and shows.

It can be frustrating in other settings to be told to keep the show exactly as it is, but then find a new way your character may react half way through a run and not feel like you can use it. That is definitely not the case here. The director also adapts to what you need from her. If you are more of a “let me play” actor, she’ll take a step away and only give her two cents if it doesn’t fit the feel of the show. If you are more of a hands on actor, she can break down her direction to give you specific actions or motives.

This is also a great space for true collaboration between performers and directors. If a direction doesn’t feel right to you, you have every right to discuss why that may be and how to make a performance true to both the director and performer. Pay is just a stipend for your volunteer work at the moment. I’m excited to see what happens with this theater as it embarks on its bigger picture and what else they will have to offer.

This company is not only very professional, they are very, very fun. The director is very efficient at managing rehearsals and helping actors to bring out their greatest potential. She’s also very respectful of everyone’s time, which is huge.

She backs up her process with genuine talent and makes everyone feels welcome. No one is left without good notes and everyone receives direction. Zero toxicity with this company, I can’t sing it’s praises enough. I wish more companies were like this, it honestly sets a new standard for community theatre. They really set you up for success and I can’t wait to see it grow with the new space.

I owe a big “thank you” to this theater for getting me to love performing again.

Audition: took about 2 hours, with no callback. It started with Courtney (creative director) saying “I don’t care about your credits, show me what you have now” – which made me feel way more comfortable having no big credits on my resume. She also let anyone read for other parts if they wanted to – which showed a lot of flexibility right out of the gate.

Rehearsal: was a very fun and collaborative process! If we wanted to try something new, we just said so and did it and got feedback on those choices. Also – zero tolerance for egos or other actors giving each other notes without asking. She and the rest of the team focused heavily on making an inclusive environment for everyone.

We were given plenty of time to polish the show before opening, leading to very few technical or other issues during the run.

Can’t say enough good things about being a performer here.
