While I can appreciate the desire to maintain tradition, I think Splinter Group misses the mark. There are generally no auditions and participation is offer-only and tend to follow a troupe model; this means that this company’s saving grace as a performer is the talent you’ll get to work with because leadership has amassed a group of stellar performers willing to work in subpar conditions.
I have never felt so disrespected as when I worked with Splinter Group. The entire rehearsal process felt like it was last-minute, to the point that we entered tech week without ever doing a full run of the show. I am a professional in multiple artistic fields but my professional expertise was passed over multiple times.
The director did not schedule rehearsals in any organized way, and the production (which otherwise could have been passable) suffered for it. Participating in their productions literally gave me stress-related health problems.
Additionally, this company seems to have no qualms about working with at least one predatory individual in a paid position, despite working with underage performers and performing to an underage audience.
