About as close to a professional environment as you’re going to get in community theater! I had a really good experience here and would definitely recommend to more people.
All my acting friends had only good things to say about working here, and I finally got a shot to be in one of their shows this past season.
Audition: it can be pretty competitive. I don’t say this to scare people off, but a lot of talented people are going after usually a small handful of desirable roles. Make sure to prepare! Audition information posted was accurate. For the show I was in, there was a singing and dancing portion, as well as reading some sides. They provided an accompanist, so I brought sheet music (always double check the posting to see what to prepare).
Rehearsal: this is always going to change with the director that you work with, but I had a great experience during rehearsals. Rehearsal schedule was accurate, and we never went over time. Even if there was more we were going to get to that day, we would stop and pick up during the next rehearsal. This is a real lifesaver, especially for people commuting further for rehearsals.
Director made sure to emphasize the no tolerance policy for egos and bullying. I felt supported throughout the rehearsal process.
Tech: they have real technical staff, so I felt pretty spoiled (having previously worked on shows that didn’t even have a stage manager). Quick changes are so much easier when there are ASMs there to help you. Production values are higher than I’ve experienced in other community theaters.
Resources: they mic the actors, had live band, and had an actual green room/dressing room space. Also, stage manager was really good about wellness checks to make sure people were feeling comfortable and taken care of (big props for the additional support, shows can be stressful).
Overall, would recommend people check this place out. I’m hoping to do more shows with them in their upcoming season!
